Renfrewshire Council

How to become a Trusted Trader

The Trusted Trader Scheme was launched in March 2012 and expanded to East Renfrewshire in 2014, initiated by the Council to help local customers find reliable local traders. This, in turn, helps quality local traders generate more business.

How it works

Renfrewshire Trusted Trader Scheme publishes a directory of local businesses that have allowed previous customers to comment and rate their work.

How to apply

If you are interested in joining the scheme, please read the terms and conditions document and then complete the application form, which can be found in the 'related media' section of this page.

Cost

Annual membership fee is £200 + VAT.

The fee can be paid either yearly or quarterly.

This is a non-profit making scheme. Your fee helps cover costs of operating the scheme, such as maintaining the online database and feedback system and ongoing advertising and promotion to the public.

Second year statistics report

Over the two year of the Scheme the following statistics have been gathered:

  • On 1st April 2014 the scheme has expanded in to the East Renfrewshire area
  • Over 800 local customers viewing the Trusted Trader website every month
  • Average customer satisfaction score of a trusted trader is 9.7 out of 10
  • 100% of customers who use the scheme have indicated that they would use it again to find a trader

  • When you join, we will provide you with marketing materials that you can use at your premises and on vehicles and stationery and website to show potential customers that you are a member of the scheme.
  • You will receive support from Renfrewshire Council's Trading Standards team to help you to understand and comply with consumer protection legislation.

How we vet your business

When we receive your application, we will check your company's suitability by:

  • analysing any complaint data or information we hold on your business;
  • checking any trade association membership details;
  • obtaining a copy of your public liability insurance documents;
  • obtaining comments from previous customers on your trading practices; and
  • examining documentation used by your business when entering into customer contracts to ensure that it complies with consumer protection legislation.

The Trusted Trader Scheme relies on member businesses being honest and reputable. Members must agree to abide by the terms and conditions and show that they have a responsible and sensible attitude to conducting business.

All members' business practices and customer feedback will be monitored by the Trading Standards team.
