TV licence blind concession

Home > Services > Social care and health > Services for disabled adults > Sensory impairment

All children and adults who are registered blind can get 50% discount on their TV licence fee. People who are aged 75 or over, regardless of whether they have a visual impairment, can get a totally free TV licence.

To qualify for the blind concession, either you or someone you live with must be registered blind (not partially sighted). If the person who is registered blind is not the named person currently on the licence, the licence will have to be transferred into the name of the registered blind person.

To get your blind concession, you will need to provide a photocopy of the certificate from your local authority or ophthalmologist indicating that you are registered blind. You will need to post the photocopy along with your licence renewal notice and fee payment to: TV Licensing, Blind Concession Group, Bristol BS98 1TL. For more information, you can call TV Licensing on 0300 790 6071.

Residents in Renfrewshire who are registered blind can obtain a certificate of their registration from the council's Visual Impairment Team.
