People who are registered blind or partially sighted can make use of Royal Mail's 'Articles for the Blind' service.
This is a free postal service for items designed for blind and partially sighted people, for example, Braille literature, specialist aids and equipment, talking books and newspapers.
For more information about what you can or cannot send using this service, you can check the Royal Mail website or contact your local post office.
To prepare your item to be posted, write clearly on the outside of the envelope or package 'ARTICLES FOR THE BLIND', and include the names and addresses of the recipient and the sender.
You can also use special 'ARTICLES FOR THE BLIND' labels which can be purchased from Royal National Institute of the Blind Customer Service (0845 702 3153). You will need to leave your mail open for inspection, or at least make sure it is easy to open.
If you find it hard to get to a post-box or post office to send your mail, you can call Royal Mail on 08457 740 740 to arrange for your item to be collected.
