Free telephone directory enquiry service

Home > Services > Social care and health > Services for disabled adults > Sensory impairment

British Telecom (BT) runs a free directory enquiry service for people who are registered blind or partially sighted. If you are eligible for this service, you can apply to use it by dialling 195 or freephone 0800 587 0195 on weekdays between 9am and 4.30pm.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive a card with your personal identification number or "pin". When you need to find a telephone number, you just dial 195 at any time and quote your pin number and name. You will get the telephone number you need free of charge.

Furthermore, if you are eligible for this service and if you have difficulty dialling a number, the operator can help by getting the number dialled for you. The free telephone directory service is available 24 hours a day.

If you are a resident in Renfrewshire, you can contact the council’s Visual Impairment Team and our staff will apply to BT on your behalf.
