Concessionary travel cards for blind and partially sighted people
Home > Services > Social Care and Health > Disabilities > Sensory Impairment
On 1 April 2006, a new travel scheme set up by Transport Scotland (the Scottish Government's transport agency) came into operation. This scheme allows older people and people with disabilities to travel free on any local bus service or scheduled long distance coach service anywhere in Scotland. To use the scheme, you will need a Scottish Citizen's National Entitlement Card.
If you are registered blind or partially sighted and are living in the Strathclyde region, you can enjoy additional concessions. The Entitlement Card for registered blind and partially people has a logo of an eye on it which indicates that the card holder has extra travel benefits. With such a card, you can travel free of charge at any time, standard class, within Scotland on scheduled services of all participating transport operators. These services include:
- all rail services within Scotland and ScotRail services to Carlisle, and Virgin and GNER services to Berwick and Carlisle
- all scheduled bus services within Scotland and to Berwick and Carlisle
- all scheduled ferry services within Scotland, and
- the subway service operated in Glasgow.
If you live in Renfrewshire and you want to find out how to apply for the Entitlement Card, please contact the council's Visual Impairment Team.
