Blind Person’s Income Tax Allowance
Home > Services > Social care and health > Services for disabled adults > Sensory impairment
People who are registered blind (but not those registered partially-sighted) are entitled to a special income tax allowance in addition to the other tax allowances that everybody gets.
An income tax allowance is the amount of income which you do not have to pay tax for.
If you are married or have a civil partner and are both registered blind, you can claim an allowance each. If you are married or have a civil partner, you can transfer any surplus Blind Person's Income Tax Allowance to your spouse or civil partner.
If you think you can claim the allowance, contact your Tax Office.
