Blind and partially sighted registration

If you have poor eyesight you might want to think about registering as blind or partially sighted. This can help you get the support and services that you may require.
Each local authority keeps a register of blind and partially sighted people living in its area. Within Renfrewshire the register is held by the council’s Visual Impairment Team. The idea behind keeping a register is that it helps local authorities to plan and provide services for children and adults who have a severe visual impairment.
Registration is voluntary and the register is confidential. Registration can act as a ‘passport’ to services, concessions and benefits. If you wish to explore the possibility of registration, you can consult your ophthalmologist or your GP. Residents in Renfrewshire can also contact the duty worker of the council's Visual Impairment Team, who can offer advice on registration.
