Charter Mark

The Visual Impairment Team was assessed for Charter Mark on 28 November 2007. Mr Harry Nichol, our Charter Mark assessor, spent the full day with our team. He arrived at 9 o’clock in the morning and was with us until 7pm. He spent time looking at written evidence that we had prepared showing the quality of services we offer. The initial part of Charter Mark is self assessment and the VI Team have to present a wide range of evidence to the assessor. Mr Nichol spent time talking to staff, some service users and a number of professionals who work in partnership with the VI Team.

Staff from the VI Team enjoyed the day (especially meeting with service users) and were keen to get the assessor’s view of our service delivery. We were delighted when Mr Nichol shared that we would be recommended for the Charter Mark Award. He particularly commented on our strong teamwork, our use of technology in providing services and our acting on feedback from service users and staff.

The team now await the full report which will give the assessor’s view of what we are currently doing well and the areas where we could be working to improve. On the basis of Mr Nichol's recommendation, the VI Team are likely to be awarded Charter Mark for a three year period. Over the next three years the team will continue to use Charter Mark as a framework for looking at how we currently deliver services and how we can improve.
