The Department for Work and Pensions was formed on 8 June 2001 from parts of the former Department of Social Security, which included the Benefits Agency, and parts of the former Department for Education and Employment.
Many benefits can be claimed by telephone:
- for Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseekers Allowance and Income Support, phone 0800 055 6688
- for Pension Credit (Over 60's), phone 0845 606 0265
To claim Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance for the first time , the local office is:
