Modernising residential and day care for older people

As planned residents, staff and day care attenders moved into Montrose Care home and day centre in March 2007. Older people living in the new accommodation have settled in extremely well and are delighted with their new home.
Day care service users are also pleased with their new facility, particularly the spacious environment and views over Gleniffer Braes.
Hunterhill Care home, in Blackford Road, opened to residents recently. Residents from Castle House and Garthland House moved to Hunterhill on 14 and 15 January 2008 and Castle House is now closed. Thirty four residents will remain in Garthland House until Cockels Loan opens in 2009. Relatives and residents had the opportunity to visit the new care home prior to the transfer. They were pleased with the design, high quality of finishes and quality of furnishing.
Residents tell us they are delighted with their new home, particularly privacy offered by their own bedroom with ensuite facilities. They are looking forward to spending time in the enclosed garden in the spring and summer months.
Hunterhill Care Home provides 48 permanent beds, 12 of these for people with dementia. The dedicated respite unit of 12 beds will be operational from 4 February 2008.
The manager of the new care home is Jim Davidson. Jim has many years of experience managing care homes and is looking forward to the challenge of managing the new service at Hunterhill Care home.
The third home, Cockels Loan Care home, in Renfrew, will start building work in early 2008 with completion in spring/summer 2009. We will keep you informed of progress.
Consultation with service users, staff , carers and the local community has been crucial to the modernisation programme.
