Flexible individual personal support scheme (F.I.P.S.S.)
Home > Services > Social Care and Health > Disabilities > Physical Disability
F.I.P.S.S. is a service that supports people with physical disabilities increasing the opportunities available to them. They can:
- support you by giving you access to leisure activities and social activities
- support you to develop independent living skills and
- support you to take part in your community
- How to access educational, leisure and social activities
If you have a disability, getting out and about in the community can be difficult. F.I.P.S.S. can help you get out and visit the places you want to see.
Education
Many people who have a disability feel isolated and lose confidence. As a result, returning to education can be a daunting prospect. F.I.P.S.S. can provide individual packages of support to help you access community education, mainstream classes and flexible and distance learning.
Supported Learning - are you interested in computers?
- do the Internet, megabytes and disk drives sound alien to you?
- would you like to get a basic knowledge of computers?
- F.I.P.S.S., in partnership with Reid Kerr College, provides learning opportunities for people who want to learn new skills, but would prefer smaller, more sheltered classes. Small groups can use the latest technology and tuition from the Reid Kerr College with help from F.I.P.S.S. Support staff. Reid Kerr can provide a wide selection of adaptations that can make computing accessible to everyone.
Social and leisure - do you enjoy the company of other people?
- do you find it difficult to be involved in activities within your local community?
- do you want to participate but lack confidence in your abilities?
- F.I.P.S.S. may be able to help you in practical ways. For example, we can go with you to the places you'd like to visit, helping you gain skills, confidence and independence from carers and family. F.I.P.S.S. staff know about accessible community resources and may be able to help you explore new interests or to continue to access facilities within the wider community.
Leisure groups
Because some people who use the service wanted help in meeting other people who use the services, we have set up small leisure groups. The members of the group decide on what they want to do and where they want to go. Staff are available to provide the support needed to do the things they want to do, such as going to the cinema, going 10-pin bowling and dining out.
