Day care services

Day care is intended to help older people who live in their own homes or with carers, to get out and meet others and to remain active in their community. A typical day in a centre offers varied activities which promote social interaction and meet individual personal and physical care needs. transport to and from the centre and meals are provided.
The service objects for day care services for older people are
- to assist people to remain in their own homes should they wish to do so
- to promote social stimulation and prevent isolation
- to provide a resource for social care and health
- to promote the maintenance of daily living skills
- to contribute to rehabilitation where people have a debilitating illness
- to provide specialist care for people with dementia
- to provide support and information to carers
