Bail information service

Home > Services > Social care and health > Criminal justice social work

In accordance with the national Guidance on Bail Information and Supervision Schemes, the aim of the service is to reduce the number of custodial remands, in appropriate cases, by providing verified, factual information: recognising that in certain circumstances, particular information may lead to the refusal of bail.

Where bail is opposed and an offender is already known to the Social Work department through Probation or some other disposal, the facts given by their worker would be relayed to the court. No assessment of these facts would be given.

A Bail Officer is based at Paisley Sheriff Court. The main function of the Bail Officer is to interview accused persons in custody and verify information about current involvement with statutory and voluntary agencies and social, family, employment and accommodation circumstances. Where necessary the Bail Information Officer may arrange alternative accommodation for the accused person.
