Home > Services > Education and Learning > Support for Learning > Additional Support for Learning
As a mentor you will support 'looked after' young people to remain engaged with secondary education then support them through the transition to further education, employment and training by providing
- individual emotional and practical support to young people;
- personal, social and vocational development;
- the young person with new skills by promoting academic achievement, encouraging vocational achievement and facilitating independence and success;
- regular reports and contact summaries; and
- advocacy when appropriate.
Depending on the needs of the young person you are supporting and how much time you have to offer will decide how much time you will need to give to the young person. On average, a young person receives 2-6 hours of support a week and will see their mentors once or twice a week.
You will be paid a similar wage to a residential child care worker.
