We provide brain injury awareness and strategies to help the person on a daily basis fulfil their goals realistically. We do this by working with the person, family and carers either within groups or on a one to one basis to overcome the short and long term effects of acquired brain injury. The service aims to provide a coordinated approach to meeting the needs of people and carers affected by acquired brain injury.

To access this service, Renfrewshire Head Injury Service accepts telephone referrals from:

• the social work department;
• GPs;
• health professionals;
• the person with the acquired brain injury;
• carers/family; and
• disability employment advisors.

Some things we can help with include:

• enabling people to maximise their potential;
• helping people cope with the activities of daily living;
• directing people to appropriate services;
• helping with vocational and employment opportunities;
• advice and support;
• drop in service;
• supporting self advocacy/advocacy; and
• practical and emotional support following hospital discharge.
