Information about free personal and nursing care in Scotland

In July 2002, the former Scottish Executive introduced changes to the system of charging for personal care. People over 65 who need personal care as part of their service can now receive this free.
The changes will not apply to everyone. There are rules about what qualifies as personal care, and other types of care may still be charged for. We have to look at your age and your present care arrangements before we can then work out if there will be any change to how much you pay. For some people, there will be no change.
We can advise you what to do if the changes seem to affect you. If you are in any doubt about whether this affects you, please contact your local Social Work area team, whose details are on the right hand menu.
