A Structure Plan provides a framework of strategic policies for the long term planning and development of an area and provides a link across council boundaries to national planning policy. Structure Plans are however being phased out.
The Approved Structure Plan
The current approved Structure Plan is the 'Glasgow and the Clyde Valley Joint Structure Plan 2000 - Third Alteration and Fourth Alteration’. The Third Alteration became operative on 29 April 2008. The Fourth Alteration to the Glasgow and the Clyde Valley Joint Structure Plan 2000 was prepared to reflect the terminology of Scottish Planning Policy (SPP) 8: Town Centres and Retailing. The Scottish Ministers issued their decision on the Fourth Alteration on 20 March 2009. A copy of the approval letter is available from the Glasgow and the Clyde Valley Strategic Development Planning Authority website
Renfrewshire Council worked jointly with seven other councils to prepare the current Glasgow and the Clyde Valley Joint Structure Plan and this partnership will continue in the preparation of the Strategic Development Plan. The other councils involved are Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire, North and South Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. A joint committee has been set up by the eight councils. This committee is the Glasgow and the Clyde Valley Strategic Development Planning Authority Joint Committee, and each council has two councillors on the Joint Committee. More information is available on the Glasgow and the Clyde Valley Strategic Development Planning Authority Joint Committee webpage.
