The Riverside Initiative will bring a significant increase in the population of Renfrew and an economic boost for businesses in Renfrew town centre.
The council and Scottish Enterprise have undertaken major public realm works to ensure that the town centre is a safer, more pleasant place to visit, live and shop. The works have provided for a bright, refreshed environment including new civic spaces, carefully designed traffic calming measures and improved lighting and signage, using high quality materials throughout. Importantly, the project has also strengthened linkages to Renfrew Riverside, ensuring that the town centre will benefit fully from the ongoing developments there.

The quality and success of the town centre project has recently been recognised through awards from the British Association of Landscape Industry (BALI) and the Scottish Government/Royal Town Planning Institute.
As part of the ongoing regeneration of the town centre, works have also recently take place to upgrade the public square at High Street. The project involved use of the same high quality materials elsewhere within the town centre, including new high quality paving, new lighting and appropriate street furniture.
A Property Improvement Grant Scheme for commercial properties within the town centre has recently been completed. The grant scheme has assisted 23 businesses in the undertaking works to enhance and preserve the quality of their properties, providing for major improvements in the appearance of the town centre and reinforcing the area as an attractive destination for visitor shoppers and businesses.
