Paisley THI & CARS logo
The Paisley THI & CARS project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Scotland and Renfrewshire Council.

Focused on the Causeyside area of Paisley Town Centre Conservation Area, the project aims to support investment through heritage-led regeneration.

Paisley THI & CARS project offers grants to property owners within the eligible area of Paisley Town Centre Conservation Area for high-quality repair and restoration schemes.

If you own or rent a property in the qualifying area (see the map below), you may be able to apply for a grant of up to 85% of costs for the repair and reinstatement of traditional architectural features on historic buildings and shopfronts.

Paisley Arts Centre

The first Paisley THI & CARS traditional restoration project is now on site. The building will undergo extensive restoration works including roof repairs, renewal of lead works, wall repointing with lime mortar, stone indenting, replacement of timber windows and improvements to external doors and rainwater goods. The project is expected to be on site for seven months. The programme of events in the Arts Centre will not be disrupted during the works and will continue as planned. Causeyside Street Area Public Realm Improvements

Improvements to the Causeyside Street, New Street and Johnston Street areas are now progressing from the Stage E design stage after a number of successful public exhibitions and consultations with local businesses.

Traditional training, educational activities and project events

Pupils of West Primary School at City of Glasgow College
As part of the education and training element of the project, Primary 7 pupils from four Paisley Primary Schools visited City of Glasgow College to take part in traditional building workshops. The children experienced stonemasonry, roofing and plastering and were given an insight into traditional construction skills relevant to their own town.

Sharon Mazzoni, Acting Head Teacher of St Mary's Primary School said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed their time at City of Glasgow College and some commented that it was best trip ever! Fantastic!"
