Paisley's new East End parking scheme
Home > Services > Transport and Streets > Parking
Renfrewshire Council have made traffic regulation orders in the east end of Paisley in response to:
- increasing demand for on-street parking
- complaints of parked vehicles blocking accesses
- requests from residents to control parking and allow them to park near their homes.
The Paisley's East End project is now spilt into two separate Traffic Orders. One is designed to remove the hazard of parked vehicles from junctions and corners and the other to control incoming vehicles and allow residents to park near their homes.
Proposal 1 is for yellow line (waiting and loading) restrictions but also introduces disabled parking places. The area covered is bounded broadly between the Glasgow - Ayr railway line and the White Cart Water from Mill Street to, and including parts of, Arkleston and Hawkhead Roads.
Proposal 2 covers a controlled parking 'Pay and Display Zone' bounded broadly by Seedhill Road to the south and Glasgow Road to the north, between Mill Street and Clarence Street. Explanatory leaflets are to be delivered to all affected households in this area. Residents will be able to apply annually for a free parking permit at the rate of one per dwelling. Other vehicles will need to 'Pay and Display' between 9am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays at a rate of 20 pence for 30 minutes and will be limited to a 4 hour maximum stay or be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice by traffic wardens.
What does this mean?
- increased parking availability and reduced congestion in your street because drivers will park elsewhere to avoid the charges
- improved access for emergency and service vehicles as yellow lines will clear corners and junctions
- improved road safety as drivers will be able to see other cars and pedestrians at corners and junctions
- better access for tradesmen and delivery drivers.
- parking permits will be available for residents and businesses in the seedhill area, where the meters are, and will be available from June 08
