Introduction

These are the standards of service you can expect from us in dealing with building standards matters. We may not be able to meet these targets in all cases, but we expect to most of the time.

Contacts by phone
We will:

• answer our phones quickly, normally within five rings
• only give general advice over the phone

Before you apply for a building warrant

• Why not speak to us before you apply so we can consider your application and give you some general advice?

Your building warrant application
We will:

• always make a building standards officer available to give you general information and advice during office hours
• make an officer available to talk to you about your proposals if you first make an appointment by email, letter or by phone

Registration
We will:

• tell you within five working days if we cannot register your application because it is not complete or valid. We'll also tell you how to put it right
• we will register valid applications within five working days and tell you when this is done

Getting approval for a building warrant
We will:

• reply to building warrant applications within 30 working days
• issue a building warrant which meets the building regulations within five working days

Site inspections
We will:

• inspect a site within three working days if you or anybody else asks us to

Your completion certificate
We will:

• reply within five working days if you ask for a completion certificate
• issue completion certificates within five working days

Building Standards enquiries
We will:

• reply to you within five working days if you have a building standards enquiry
• issue a building standards enquiry within five working days

Dangerous buildings
We will:

• deal with all reports of dangerous buildings immediately
