Planning Applications Online - User guide

You can search for information on planning applications in two ways:
- Planning Application Search. Use the application reference number, location, applicant, agent name or date of registration to see details of planning applications.
- Planning Application Map Search. Use the Council's interactive map to see the boundaries of planning applications dating back to 2000.
Select the blue 'Planning Application Search' link on the bottom right hand side of this page to open the search facility. Then use one of the following options to begin your search:
- Start a new search - use this option if you know some details of the application you are interested in, for example, the reference number. Please use the reference number format of 'year/number' for example '05/0144'. You can also search by location, applicant and agent names,date of registration or decision. You can search on these individually or in combination.
- Quick Search - use this option to see the most recent applications submitted, decided, or subject to appeal.
- Registers - use this option to see the weekly lists of applications registered, decisions made, or appeals made over the past three months.
Search results
Search results are presented as a summary list of applications which match the details you have searched on. Click on the application reference number to view the details of each application.
Details page
This page provides detailed information on the selected application. It will show decisions made, conditions attached to approvals and reasons for refusal. For most applications decided after January 2003 you can read the officer's report by clicking on "Click here for the officer's report."
Application boundary on a map
View the boundaries of applications registered on or after 1 January 2000 by clicking on "View application boundary on map" on the summary or detail results pages. This link takes you to the Council's interactive map system. At first, you will see the boundary of the application selected. You can use the map to see the boundaries of other applications as well as other planning information. Further details on how to search using the map are given below.

Planning Application Map Search
Select the blue 'Planning Application Map Search' link on the bottom right hand side of this page to open the interactive mapping system. You can also access this facility through the summary and details page of the Planning Applications search as described above. Find the location you are interested in and then use the interactive map to show information. Use this sequence:
1. Locate the site in which you are interested. You can do this by
- using the arrows at the "move" button at the top of the map to move up, down right or left to locate the desired area. You can also zoom in or out using the zoom bars OR
- under the "Search for a" box you can select "town" or "postcode"and this will open an additional box which will allow you to select a town or enter a postcode. Once you have done this the map will automatically go to the selected location.
- This provides the option of selecting a map showing the boundaries of all applications submitted during each of the years 2000 to the current date and provides maps showing other important planning information.
- From the "show me any" drop-down box select one of the maps showing planning applications, for example "2006 planning applications." The map will show the boundaries of all the applications received during the selected year.
- Click within the boundary of the application in which you are interested. (Make sure that you have zoomed in sufficiently to click within the boundary of the application.)
- The reference number of the selected application is displayed at the bottom of the map frame below the drop down boxes.
- Click on "More Details here"
- The details of the selected planning application will be displayed. Use the web browser navigation buttons to move between the map and the application details page to continue your search.
As well as the planning application boundaries for 2000 to the current date, the map allows you to see the boundaries for the following:
- listed buildings
- conservation areas
- scheduled ancient monuments
- historic and designed landscapes.
- special protection areas (SPAs)
- sites of special scientific interest (SSSIs)
- tree preservation orders (TPOs)
- Permitted development rights removed and Areas of Special Advert Control.
