Renfrewshire's Core Paths Plan

Home > Services > Environment and Planning > Planning > Walking, Cycling and Access

Under the new access legislation the council has a duty to produce a Core Paths Plan of Renfrewshire. This plan will identify the most important paths and routes to give the public a reasonable degree of access throughout the area. The Core Paths Plan will link countryside and recreational areas to workplaces, schools and other facilities in our towns and villages. It will also help to link communities.

Paths included in the Core Paths Plan may be surfaced, or simply grassy or dirt tracks. They may run along a minor road in the countryside or an urban pavement. The Core Paths will be signposted and eventually appear on Ordnance Survey maps. The whole network of core paths will provide for all types of users and abilities, although not every path will be suitable for everyone.

Consultation on the draft Core Paths Plan started on Monday 7 April 2008 and will run until Sunday 31 August 2008. Between these dates, you can view copies of the draft plan at Renfrewshire House or by visiting any of the Renfrewshire libraries. Maps of the proposed Core Paths are available to view on the interactive map.

If you have any comments or objections to the proposed Core Path Plan please reply using the feedback form.

Strategic Environment Assessment

By law, the council has to make a decision as to whether or not a Strategic Environment Assessment (SEA) is required for the Core Paths Plan. The SEA is an important component of sustainable development as it allows for a systematic assessment of the significant environmental effects of the Core Paths Plan. The director of planning and transport has decided that a Strategic Environmental Assessment will be required for the Core Paths Plan. You can downloaded a copy of the Screening Determination from this link.

An environmental report is now being prepared. It will identify, describe and evaluate the likely significant effect on the environment of implementing the draft Core Paths Plan. As with the Core Paths Plan, you will also have the opportunity to comment on this document during a formal period of public consultation.
