ance Armstrong getting out of car in Paisley.
The story of Lance Armstrong's visit to Paisley and his cycle ride in and around Renfrewshire on the 18 August 2009 was reported in news media throughout the world. The news spread quickly among cycling enthusiasts and about 300 people turned up in the centre of Paisley to accompany Lance on his run. You can read more about this on the BBC website.

The route map and description are available to download below. The route is close to 42 kilometres (26 Miles). Lance’s run started and finished in Paisley High Street, just east of Orr Square (navigate to 44 High Street, Paisley, PA1 2DQ). The route runs through Elderslie and Johnstone to Howwood where it takes a minor road to Lochwinnoch.

On a safety note This route is all on public roads so anyone undertaking the run should be experienced in cycling on trafficked routes; see leaflet Travelling Safely Together on Country Roads, which you can download below. In particular the section of the route from Lochwinnoch along the A760 Kilbirnie Road and the A737 from Roadhead Roundabout to the Elliston Interchange is on a very busy section of road and should only be used by experienced cyclists. For less experienced cyclists it is suggested that you follow the Sustrans cycle track from Lochwinnoch to Howwood which allows you to avoid this particularly busy section of road. This alternative route is described in the route description and map..

Whilst the route may be a routine training run for experienced club cyclists it provides a good test for less experienced cyclists, in particular the steep ascent above Howwood.
