As well as good road access, it has a railway station on the Glasgow to Greenock and Gourock line. The area has an interesting history.
Facilities in the village include a primary school, village hall, shops and restaurant. On the edge of the village lies Finlaystone Country Estate with long established gardens and woodlands, adventure play areas, a gift shop and cafe. The house has been in the ownership of only three families over the last six hundred years, and is now the home of the chief of the Clan Macmillan.
South of the village is Gleddoch House Hotel and Golf Club. With stunning views across the Clyde towards Ben Lomond and the Campsie Hills, the 6350 yard championship golf course presents a challenge in a most scenic setting.
