The Erskine Bridge
Erskine 'new community' was conceived in the 1960s and designed to accommodate up to 30,000 people. The present population is around 15,000. The area has an interesting history.

The former Erskine Estate was taken over in 1916 to provide nursing and medical care for ex-members of the Armed Forces.

Many of the fine buildings of the estate have been restored and found new uses. The Erskine charity itself runs four commercial businesses which have been developed to provide rehabilitation, work, training and employment for residents and disabled workers. The stable block is now a first rate conference, meetings and training centre, the Reid MacEwen Centre. The other businesses are Erskine Print, Erskine Furniture and the newly built Garden Centre.

The grand main house is now Mar Hall, a very splendid 5 star hotel, with a spa and brand new championship golf course.

Facilities in Erskine
There is a range of local shops and services at Bridgewater, which also has a library, sports centre and swimming pool.

Park Mains High School serves Erskine and Bishopton and has around 1,500 pupils.

Erskine Bridge Hotel has great views of the bridge and sits alongside the riverside walkway.

Walks around Erskine
Erskine is one of the best places to walk along the River Clyde. It has good footpaths on a long and varied stretch of the river bank, and you'll even have the chance to walk under Erskine Bridge.
