The Council cannot provide grant assistance for the installation of central heating or insulation in privately owned homes. However, you can get help through the Scottish Government's 'energy assistance package'. This package offers four types of help for homeowners:

Universal Home Insulation Scheme

Householders in Renfrewshire are being offered free insulation for their homes to help reduce fuel bills and their carbon footprint as part of the Universal Home Insulation Scheme.

Renfrewshire Council has successfully secured funding from the Scottish Government to offer home insulation measures at no cost to owners.

Properly insulated homes can reduce energy bills, making them warmer and helping to lower each home’s carbon footprint.

For homes that are suitable, cavity wall and loft insulation will be installed free of charge regardless of household income. As the available funds will be limited, applications for insulation surveys will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

This offer is only accessed through the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre and appointed project installer. The scheme is open to householders and private rented sector tenants living within the council area.

The scheme opened in January 2012. To be considered for insulation measures, call the local Energy Saving Scotland advice centre on freephone 0800 512 012 (quoting: Renfrewshire UHIS 2011), as soon as possible to go through a free home energy check to see what support is available.

In addition to this, as part of the project, Renfrewshire Council is also offering tailored energy advice and one to one support where needed, to all local residents.

This is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment towards the promotion of energy conservation and efficiency.
