General standards

The general standards of service you can expect from Environmental Health are set out below in our pledges:

Food safety

to inspect relevant business premises at intervals appropriate to the level of risk to the public
to carry out a programme of food sampling to monitor the nature and quality of food in the area
to investigate complaints about the nature and quality of food within 2 working days of receiving them

Health and safety in the workplace

to inspect relevant business premises at intervals appropriate to the level of risk in the workplace
to investigate any accident, incident or dangerous event within 2 working days of hearing about it
to give everyone working in relevant businesses and premises, particularly those responsible for managing health and safety in the workplace, reasonable help and advice

Environmental protection

to respond to all complaints about noise nuisance and, where appropriate, investigate the cause
to monitor the levels of radiation in the environment
to respond to all complaints of public health nuisance within three days of receiving the complaint
to investigate any food poisoning or suspected food poisoning within 24 hours of hearing about it
to monitor the quality of drinking water and water in swimming pools
to provide a service to collect discarded hypodermic needles within 24 hours of being told about them
to respond to all complaints about stray dogs or dog fouling
to provide pest control services within timescales appropriate to the level of risk to the public
