Items which can be recycled

Schools are provided with facilities for recycling a wide range of items see table below:

Paper	Cardboard (Please flatten before recycling)	Plastic	Cans	Tetra Pak
envelopes	cardboard boxes (small or broken down)	fizzy drinks	drink	milk cartons
magazines		water bottles	fizzy drinks	fruit juice cartons
newspapers	toilet roll tubes	shampoo bottles	(aluminium and steel)
telephone directories	kitchen roll tubes	washing - up bottles
brochures	cardboard packaging	yoghurt pots (these must be cleaned)
soft backed catalogues	computer game boxes
leaflets
unwanted mail
greeting cards
wrapping paper
office paper
coloured paper

We supply the following stickers for schools to show which items should be put in the recycling bins

• paper and cardboard only
• plastic, cans and tetrapak only

We can provide a number of different sizes of recycling container:

How the service works

School recycling containers are collected every two weeks.

Please ensure:

• Recycling containers are at the agreed collection point by 7am.
• Bin lids are kept closed.
• Bins are not contaminated and do not contain the wrong materials (contaminated bins will not be uplifted).

Useful websites

• Eco Schools Scotland
  This is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is an environmental management tool, a learning resource and a recognised award scheme.
  
• RecycleNow Schools
  This is an online resource which aims to provide primary and secondary school staff with information, advice and activities to guide them through the process of setting up and maintaining effective recycling schemes and taking a whole-school approach to recycling.
  
• Recyclezone
  This is a waste watch education website for schools, children and teachers throughout the UK. It has a lot of information about reducing, reusing and recycling.
  
• Schools Global Footprint
  This is a resource to help understand the environmental effect your school has on the planet and how to reduce this impact.
  
• Recycle More
  Is a recycling information centre where you can find help and advice on recycling at home, at school and in the workplace.
