Following a detailed review, Renfrewshire Council is bringing in improvements to the school crossing patrol service.
The main change is that patrols have been moved from places where there are traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossings, to cover additional places without lights where children currently cross on their own. The result of the changes will be that more locations will be covered on a daily basis. The review of the school crossing patrol service looked at changes to traffic patterns and road layouts which have taken place in recent years.
Existing and new school crossing patrol sites were individually assessed using national guidelines set by LAROSA, the Local Authority Road Safety Officers Association. Following this review, the Council recently approved the decision to relocate school crossing patrollers to locations where the review showed that they are most needed (where children currently face the greater risk of having to cross without any assistance).
From Monday June 16, school crossing patrollers at light-controlled pedestrian crossings have been moved to their new locations.
Each school affected has been advised of the changes.
