Renfrewshire Council's environmental services provides domestic wheeled bins and sacks to domestic properties within the Renfrewshire area. This page gives information on the following:
Wheeled bins
On the day of collection, you should wheel the container to the footpath in front of your home, nearest to where the refuse collection vehicle stops. Please leave the bin with the handles facing towards the roadway and keep the footpath clear for users.
This should be done as early as possible on the day of collection and not later than 7.30 am. During collection, the refuse collector will wheel your container to the vehicle where it will be mechanically emptied and returned. After this, you should return the wheeled bin to its usual location as soon as you are able.
Wheeled bins are available in a variety of sizes to suit householders needs. The table below has sizes and costs.
Capacity (litres) | Approximate sacks held | Cost to purchase bin |
140 | 2 | £15.00 |
240 | 4 | £20.00 |
360 | 6 | £50.00 |
If you require a bin, please use the contact details at the bottom of page, stating the size of bin required. Your request will then be added to a bin delivery list. When your bin is delivered, an invoice will then be issued. If you are a council tenant and require a bin, please contact your local neighbourhood office.

Maintenance and advice for wheeled bins
- Your collection service is on a weekly basis.
- Only the contents of the container will be emptied. The lid must be closed.
- Bins should be able to move freely from the collection point.
- Excess refuse will not be taken. Keep it for the following week, arrange a special uplift or use the household waste and recycling centres.
- Your bin should be on the pavement no later than 7.30 am on the day of collection.
- As soon as possible after your bin has been emptied, you should return it to your property. You should not permanently store your bin on the pavement.
- Damaged containers must be reported by the householder.
- Your bin is meant for household rubbish only. Please do not place any heavy or bulky items in the containers such as concrete, or any other unsuitable material.
- Cleanliness of the bin is the responsibility of the householder.

Sacks
- Residents are requested to present sacks on the designated collection day, no later than 7.30am.
- In town centre areas, sacks are collected from the back door and we ask that the sacks are presented within a dust bin (Tobby) for the men to remove.
- In the Erskine and Langbank areas, some residents are required to put their sacks out for the crew at collection points.
- We ask that residents do not put the following items into sacks: broken glass, sharp objects and knifes.
- On collection day, we provide sacks to properties which are not suitable for wheeled bins.
