Linwood Skatepark provides opportunities for skateboarding, 'in line' skating and BMX biking. The first phase of the Skatepark was built in Autumn 2003 on the former site of a disused BMX track. The skatepark has been further improved with a second phase completed in Summer 2009. This phase 2 upgrade was funded by the Big Lottery's Fair Share Trust Programme.
The Linwood Extreme Sports Squad, a local group formed during the construction of the original skatepark, worked to raise funds to improve the facilities.
Phase 1 features included:
- half pipe 1.5m high x 4.8m wide
- quarter pipe 1.5m high x 2.4 m wide
- 15 foot jump box 0.4m high x 7.4m x 4.8m with grind block and descending grind rail
- 25 foot flat ramp 1.5m high x 2.4m high
- grind block 0.3m high x 2.4m x 1m
Phase 2
Phase 2 has added a large bowl, a link path to Phase 1, floodlighting and CCTV cameras to the original skatepark. The bowl incorporates many exciting features which will appeal to beginners and experienced users alike.
