Please help us improve trading standards webpages by taking our short survey.

Every three months we publish figures showing what services we have carried out for Renfrewshire residents and businesses.

These services are explained as follows:

• Consumer complaints: Consumer complaints are referred to us for action from Consumer Direct. We offer an advice and mediation service which aims to assist consumers and traders resolve consumer complaints amicably without the need for court action.
• Business advice requests from traders: We offer advice to Renfrewshire businesses to ensure they are complying with relevant legislation and to help them resolve any consumer complaints they may receive.
• Reported scams: We offer advice to consumers who have been scammed, and also report the scammers to the Office of Fair Trading for further investigation and possible prosecution.
• Counterfeiting complaints: Consumers who have purchased counterfeit goods can report them to us for further investigation and action.
• Test purchasing of age restricted products (ARP's): Underage volunteers are used to attempt purchase of age restricted products from shops in Renfrewshire. Any trader caught selling to our volunteers are given a warning that they will be prosecuted if caught again.
• Programmed routine business premises visits: Every shop in Renfrewshire is inspected by us over a two year period to ensure that they are complying with current trading legislation and regulations.
