Recall & Safety Notice
Home > Services > Business > Trading Standards > Advice for Consumers
Unfortunately there are occasions when goods are sold with a serious flaw that can affect the safety of the product and that product has to be recalled to remove the risk of injury or death to consumers.
Retailers normally place notices in their shops and/or place adverts in newspapers to draw consumers attention to these flaws. They should also publish them on the internet if they sell goods on the internet. Usually the notices will ask consumers to return the affected product for a full refund or to safely dispose of the product .
In some cases (like washing machines or other large white goods) the notice may ask the consumer to contact the business to arrange for an engineer to fit a new, modified, part free of charge. If you contact a business concerning one of these notices and do not obtain the redress promised in the notice please contact Trading Standards who have the duty to ensure recalls and safety notices are being carried out.
