Abandoned vehicles

Abandoned vehicles are unsightly, may be dangerous and could even have been used in a crime.

It's not always easy to tell if a vehicle has been abandoned. Make sure that you do not enter or touch the vehicle.

If it has been involved in a crime, the vehicle will need to be investigated by the police. It may also contain hazardous waste or could be a fire risk.

There are a number of signs to look for:

You should also check if there is a tax disc on the vehicle and whether it's past the expiry date. If possible, you should check with your neighbours or local businesses to see if anyone knows anything about the ownership of the vehicle.

Reporting an abandoned vehicle

If you suspect that a vehicle has been abandoned, report it to the Renfrewshire Wardens Service.

They will attempt to locate the owner, but if none is found the vehicle will be removed.

Untaxed vehicles

If you suspect that a vehicle is untaxed you can report this on the DVLA website or phone: 0870 240 6282 (this can be done anonymously).
