The Local Studies Library has a subscription to the Ancestry.com website.
Ancestry contains census records for Scotland, England and Wales. Library members can access Ancestry free of charge in the Local Studies Library.
The first census to include names was carried out in 1841 and then every 10 years. Census records are currently closed for 100 years, the latest census return available is for 1911. Please note that Ancestry does not currently have access to the 1911 Census for Scotland.

The amount of information increases with each census and always includes:
- names of occupants of household
- age of occupants (not always accurate)
- place of birth (1841 Census states whether born in Renfrewshire or not)
- occupation of the head of household
