The Local Studies Library has a subscription to the Ancestry.com website.

Ancestry contains census records for Scotland, England and Wales. Library members can access Ancestry free of charge in the Local Studies Library.

The first census to include names was carried out in 1841 and then every 10 years. Census records are currently closed for 100 years, the latest census return available is for 1911. Please note that Ancestry does not currently have access to the 1911 Census for Scotland.


The amount of information increases with each census and always includes: The Local Studies Library also has Census returns for Renfrewshire available on microfilm. There are accompanying indexes to help you search these records. Please note that the 1911 Census for Renfrewshire is not available on mircofilm.
