Aims and objectives
Renfrewshire Special Games aim to promote the education and welfare of children with physical, sensory or learning disabilities through sport and to:
- promote, co-ordinate and develop participation of children with a disability in sport and physical activities
- develop sustainable sporting pathways towards excellence
- raise the profile of sport for young people with a disability
- organise sporting events, festivals and competitions
Why 'Renfrewshire Special Games'?
Renfrewshire Special Games are an investment in the future of those children and young people who have a disability. Our activities will benefit these young people by giving them:
- more opportunities to socialise
- the opportunity to participate in sports they have never tried before
- the chance to take part in sports on a regular basis in their local area
- the chance, where athletes show potential and wish to progress, to take part in competitive sports in partnership with Scottish Disability Sport.
What is happening at the Renfrewshire Special Games?
Renfrewshire Special Games give young people the opportunity to take part in a range of sporting activities led by qualified and experienced
coaches. The activities are organised on a Renfrewshire wide basis, in partnership with Renfrewshire Leisure , local and national disability sports organisations and the national sports organisation for Scotland.
Each year, we plan to hold a 'Come and Try' event for children and young people from both mainstream and special needs schools. The two day event is split between primary and secondary schools and offers a variety of sports, including some activities the children have never tried before.
Over 250 primary and secondary pupils are expected to take part in the first Renfrewshire Special Games on 14 and 15 June 2007 at Linwood Sports Centre, Brediland Road, Linwood.
The number taking part in the Games is expected to grow year on year this is why we need your help to make a difference in their lives.
