Paisley Scout map

Home > Services > Libraries > Local and Family History

The Scout Map is a hand-drawn and hand-coloured historical map of Paisley. It was donated to the Local Studies Library. Probably drawn by a Scout Leader, of the now disbanded Orr Square Church Scout Group in 1931, it measures 74cm by 91cm (29 inches by 36 inches). The map is filled with carefully drawn pictures of familiar landmarks, and gives a unique and entertaining picture of life in Paisley in the 1930s.

Detail from the Scout Map
In this detail from the map, the Scout Leader can be seen pointing to Orr Square Church saying "Say boys! This is our wigwam".

The Coats Memorial Church, the Paisley Museum and the High Church are also included.

View the map in greater detail on the website of the National Library of Scotland.

The map can be seen at any time in the Local Studies Library.
