Moon as seen through the telescope at Coats Observatory

During the winter months, Coats Observatory is open on a Tuesday and Thursday night for public viewing through the telescope. On clear nights the telescope is trained on the moon, the planets and other interesting sights in the night sky.

Please note that night viewings are weather dependent and cannot take place in rain, high wind or on cloudy nights. If the telescope is not in use there will be other activities in the Observatory including planetarium shows, talks on astronomy and the chance to view some objects from the Observatory collection including rare meteorites.
