Home Link service - transition support
Moving from primary school to secondary school can be a difficult and worrying time for some pupils. Home Link staff can make this transition easier by offering support to pupils and their parents.
From May onwards, all primary 7 pupils are offered a programme of support which takes place in the classroom. This programme is fun, full of information and gives pupils the chance to meet with Home Link staff based in their new school. Discussion topics in the programme include:
- how to get to your new school
- finding out the rules in your new school
- what to do if you get lost in your new school
- making new friends
- what to do if you are bullied

Some pupils need a bit more support and Home Link staff work with them over the school summer holiday break offering a programme of information and guidance where it is needed. These programmes last for about a week and concentrate on building the children's self confidence, arranging meetings with new school friends, and where possible, taking them on a guided tour of the new school.
