Parent councils
Home > Services > Education and learning > Information for parents
Since August 2006, every parent of a pupil attending school is automatically a member of the parent forum for that school (parent includes guardians, carers, and any one who has care of the child or young person). The parent forum can then choose to be represented by a parent council.
The role of a parent council is to:
- support the school in its work with pupils
- encourage parents to get involved in their children's learning and education
- encourage links between the school, parents, pupils, pre-school groups and the wider community, and
- represent the views of parents and report back to the parent forum.
Renfrewshire Council's education and leisure services organise four training sessions a year on topics of interest to parent councils and four meetings a year for all parent councils chairs to meet with the convenor of the education policy board, director and senior managers of the education and leisure service.
