The parent council for a school is the body which represents the parent forum.
- Since August 2006, every parent of a pupil attending school is automatically a member of the parent forum for that school.
- Parent includes guardians, carers, and any one who has care of the child or young person.
- The parent forum can choose to be represented by a parent council.
- All Renfrewshire schools are now working in partnership with their parent councils.
The role of a parent council is to:
- Support the school in its' work with pupils.
- Encourage parental involvement in their children's learning and education.
- Represent the views of all parents.
- Encourage links between the school, parents, pupils, pre school groups and the wider community.
- Report back to the parent forum.
Renfrewshire Council's education and leisure services organise four training sessions on topics of interest to parent councils and four meetings a year for all parent councils to meet with the convenor of the education policy board, director and senior managers of education and leisure service.
