The registration service was successful in getting the government's Charter Mark award, a nationally recognised standard of excellence that supports our commitment to bring services closer to the customer and make them more user friendly.

We were one of the first registration services in Scotland to gain the award when we achieved Charter Mark status in 1999. And we successfully renewed our award in 2002. The renewal process makes sure that the improvements put in place to achieve Charter Mark first time round have actually been improved further and that quality and customer focus are built into our processes.

Following recent changes in legislation we have again introduced improvements and extended the range and availability of our services including:

• civil partnership ceremonies
• civil marrages in outside venues
• weekend and public holiday ceremony availability
• citizenship ceremonies
• baby naming ceremonies
• renewal of marriage vows

We were pleased to note that the registration service had maintained its impressive levels of service and again renewed its Charter Mark in 2005 as part of corporate services departmental Charter Mark award. We are committed to retaining this award in our renewal application in 2008 .
