Elections to community councils are held every 4 years.
Notices about elections are displayed throughout the area and provide information on the minimum and maximum number of members required for each community council area. These notices also advise the closing date for receipt of candidates’ Nomination Forms and where these can be obtained.

After the closing date, candidates' nomination forms will be validated by Renfrewshire Council, and
- if the number of candidates for membership exceeds the number of places available, then a POLL will be conducted to allow local residents to elect members to their community council. Full details will be advertised locally at the time and the outcome of any POLL will be declared as soon as possible; or
- if the number of candidates for membership exceeds the minimum number of places available but doesn’t exceed the maximum number, then candidates will be elected to the community council unopposed.
Notices advising the outcome of elections will be displayed locally. Members are appointed for 4 years until the next election is held and can be re-elected.
The Scheme for Community Councils contains full details about the election process.
