Community Council Co-option of Members
Home > Services > Community and living > Community councils
Community councils can choose to co-opt additional members:
- to help keep membership numbers above the minimum allowed
- to ensure representation from other local interest groups, and/or
- to take advantage of specialist knowledge needed to pursue a particular goal (without voting rights).
Candidates for co-option and their sponsors must complete a Co-option Nomination Form. Candidates' nomination forms must be validated by Renfrewshire Council before co-optees can take up membership.
You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these documents. Download Acrobat Reader here.
The number of co-optees allowed in each community council can't be more than one-third of the total number of members, or 3 - whichever is greater.
Co-opted members are appointed only until the next interim election or four-yearly election and can seek nomination as a full member at that time.
