Civic recognition is available to residents within Renfrewshire.
For which special occasions can I apply for a message from HM The Queen?
Special messages from HM The Queen can be requested on the occasions below:
- 100th birthdays
- 105th birthdays and annually thereafter
- diamond 60th wedding anniversaries
- blue sapphire 65th wedding anniversaries
- platinum 70th wedding anniversaries
- oak 80th wedding anniversaries
- date of birth/date of marriage
- place of birth/place of marriage
- maiden name of female
- address where message should be delivered
Do I have to apply for a special message from HM The Queen, or can it happen automatically?
To ensure a special message from HM The Queen is delivered, contact should be made in the first instance with:

The Lord Lieutenancy office will arrange the special message to be delivered either by a Deputy Lieutenant, if requested, or by post.
Members services will mediate and make all arrangements required.
Can a congratulatory message from HM The Queen be a surprise or must the recipients be advised in advance?
- No, the recipients need not be advised in advance. The congratulatory message from HM The Queen can be a surprise organised by family or friends.
- The Lord Lieutenant locally will be informed as HM The Queen's representative. If requested, he/she, or his/her Deputy, will deliver the message at the appointed time. It is customary for the local MP, MSP and Provost to be advised.
- The Department of Pensions often advise the Lord Lieutenancy Office of a 100th birthday, who in turn alert the Local Authority. Contact can also be made directly with Buckingham Palace, who will then advise the local Lord Lieutenancy Office.
