Becoming a Member/Elections
Home > Services > Community and living > Community councils
There are various ways you can become a member of your local community council:
You can seek nomination as a member during an election or when an interim election is held to fill vacancies. If an election or interim election is being held, notices to this effect will be displayed throughout your neighbourhood.
If no elections or interim elections are imminent, you could consider becoming a co-opted member.
All candidates for membership must:
- be 16 or over and live in the community council area (please view the appropriate community council boundary map for details)
- be listed on the Electoral Register for that area*, and
- be nominated by two other people (known as sponsors) who also live the community council area and are listed on the Electoral Register
For an informal chat about becoming a member, or for further advice, please contact community-council.cs@renfrewshire.gov.uk or phone 0141 840 3147.
