Children's panel - application for membership
Home > Services > Council and Government > Children's Panel
The clerk to the Children's Panel Advisory Committee (CPAC) invites people interested in joining the Panel to attend an evening meeting. These meetings are usually held in Renfrewshire House, Cotton Street, Paisley during October. They give interested people the opportunity to find out more about the Panel hearings system from those directly involved.
Group discussions give potential applicants an idea of the issues dealt with at children's hearings and application forms are available at the meetings for those who want to apply for membership.
Applicants are invited to selection interviews held in November. References are asked for before the interview. Applicants are also asked to complete a Disclosure Scotland application form to allow a check for criminal convictions to be carried out if their application for panel membership is successful. The selection interviews involve a group discussion of a case study and an individual interview with members of the CPAC.
Following the selection interviews, successful candidates are selected taking into account the current needs of the Panel. These successful candidates are recommended by the CPAC for appointment by the first minister, subject to a satisfactory Disclosure Scotland check.
