The Gold Award is the ultimate Healthy Working Lives Award presented only to those organisations which demonstrate long-term commitment to improving health and well-being within their workplaces.
Renfrewshire Council first achieved the award in July 2008 and has continued to promote health in the workplace ever since.
In addition to the Gold Award, the Mental Health and Well-Being Commendation Award is being presented in recognition of the council’s commitment to improving mental health.
The Commendation Award sets a workplace standard for good practice in promoting positive mental health and well-being, supporting staff with mental health problems in the workplace and reducing barriers to recruiting staff with a history of mental health problems.
The work included holding events for staff to promote healthy lifestyles, and providing training on alcohol and substance misuse, stress awareness sessions for staff and counselling services.
Those efforts were co-ordinated by a Health Promotions Workgroup (HWP) made up of representatives from all of the council’s departments.
Accepting the awards, Councillor Allan Noon, convenor of the Council’s General Management and Finance policy board, said “These awards are a tremendous boost for Renfrewshire’s efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of employees. The wide-ranging programme has given people options for advice and practical help on a wide range of health issues.”
Graeme Stevenson, Healthy Working Lives Advisor, who presented the awards to Renfrewshire Council, said “There’s a growing awareness of the importance of helping create a healthier, more motivated workforce and the health benefits that brings to the broader community.”
“Renfrewshire’s joint working on these issues has been a fine example and the council thoroughly deserves this award.”
