The four Renfrewshire Wardens are the first people to complete the Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ) Community Wardens Level 2 Award.
The new qualification, certificated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) was created by Renfrewshire Council in partnership with South Lanarkshire, Stirling and Dundee councils.
The SVQ Community Wardens Level 2 Award is for employees who previously had no opportunity to gain a vocational qualification.
Renfrewshire were the first Scottish Council to achieve accreditation to deliver the SQA qualification, with the others following soon after.
Councillor Marie McGurk, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s environment and infrastructure policy board, said: "Since November 2008 the revamped Renfrewshire wardens service has been a huge success. Using their broader role as community safety and environmental enforcement officers they have been instrumental in supporting the council's Clean Renfrewshire campaign and working closely along the police on community safety issues, in particular to reduce anti-social behavior. In April 2009 our wardens also became the first in Scotland to join the police in wearing body-mounted cctv cameras.
"They do a fantastic job and to achieve this vocational qualification on top of that is not an easy task. This has involved deadlines, completing a portfolio, continual assessment, all while carrying out their normal duties. The completion of this qualification is another indication of the quality and commitment of the Renfrewshire wardens. I'd like to congratulate them and the development team who have worked hard to deliver this new qualification."
