Proposals for the £50,000 Arkleston Road traffic calming scheme are being referred to an independent local public hearing to allow a full debate on the scheme to be held.
Renfrewshire Council took the decision after receiving objections to its proposals during public consultations on the scheme. The hearing will be presided over by the Scottish Government Reporter.
The hearing will allow people who support the scheme and those who object to it to present their respective cases. The Reporter will then make recommendations on whether the scheme should go ahead or be dropped. The hearing is likely to be held in Spring 2010.
Councillor Marie McGurk, convener of the environment and infrastructure policy board, said, "There are strong feelings for and against this scheme and we feel that the best way forward is for the independent Reporter to hear both sides of the argument in a public forum. This will make sure there is a fair outcome that meets residents' needs."
